Ray Drake

Graveside services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 13, at Woodbine Cemetery for Ray Pappy Drake, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Drake, 82, died Friday, April 8, 2005 at his home. Rev. Jason Kraft will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Shawn Martin, Billy Drake, Cody Martin, B.C. Martin, Dylan Drake, and Stephen Drake. Mr. Drake was born May 2, 1922 in Shamrock, Texas; the son of Matt Emmett Drake and Nanny Lou McGaha Drake. He came to Artesia in 1945 after serving in the United States Army during World War II. On December 24, 1946 he was married to Daisy Lee Armstrong in Lubbock, Texas. He was a painter; a member of West Main Baptist Church; and the Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, five sisters, a son James Dewayne Drake, and a grandson Joe Michael Drake. Survivors include his wife Daisy Lee Drake of the family home; sons Charles Chalk Drake and wife Larraine of Artesia, David Drake of Artesia, and Ronnie Shulz of Artesia; a daughter Joanna Kiss Martin and husband Delford of Artesia; daughter-in-law Anita Drake of Artesia; sisters DeeDee Wallace of Artesia, and Eva McNealy of Ralls, Texas; grandchildren Shawn Martin and wife Amanda, Billy Drake and wife Michelle, Cody Martin and wife Crystal, B. C. Martin and Echo Derrick, Dylan Drake, Stephen Drake, Katelyn Drake, and Joel Shulz all of Artesia; and a great-grandchild Hunter Bo Martin of Artesia.
