Ray Blount

April 2, 1935 — November 20, 2010

Graveside services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Woodbine Cemetery for Ray Blount of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Blount, 75, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at his home.

Nolan Frederick will officiate at the services. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Blount was born April 2, 1935 in Ten Mile, Tennessee the son of Arthur Lee Blount and Cena Delrhea Davis Blount.

He came to Artesia in 1959 from Roswell, N.M. where he resided since the 8th grade. On July 16, 1960 he was married to Rosemary Frederick in Roswell. She preceded him in death October 21, 1992. He was also preceded in death by parents brother Jim Blount and a sister Ardrea McQuaide.

He served in the United States National Guard and was a Radio Technician for Ma Bell and US West telephone companies. He was a member of the Baptist denomination.

Ray was a man who loved his family, and was respected by those who knew him. There was never anything said against someone, he believed in the goodness of his fellow man. As a young man Ray had the opportunity to play professional golf, due to family obligations he stayed home and never complained about a lost opportunity. Ray watched the Golf Channel starting every Thursday thru Sunday, and knew the standings of the golfers. Ray enjoyed helping his sons remodel their homes, fishing, hunting and spoiling his grandchildren.

Survivors include sons Johnnie Ray Blount and wife Cheryl of Artesia, and Sammie Jo Blount and wife Leslie of Artesia brother C.T. Blount of Lawton, Oklahoma grandchildren Carrie Herring and husband Justin, Courtney Moudy and husband Jim, Jordan Blount, Amanda Underwood and Miguel Duran, Jr., Cody Underwood and wife Vicki, and Chance Underwood and wife Lindsey greatgrandchildren Hardy Underwood, Ryan Herring, Mia Duran, and Aiden Moudy.

The family would like to say a very heartfelt thank you to all of the homecare girls and everyone else that helped Ray the last 18 years.
