Raul Dooley Juarez passed away July 24, 2007 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Dooley was born August 7, 1922 in Artesia, N.M. to Ralph Juarez and Paula Chavez. Dooley graduated from Artesia High School in 1942 and was immediately inducted into the United States Army where he served as a Surgical Technician in the Pacific Theater of World War II in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. He was decorated with the American Theater Asiatic Pacific Theater Philippines Liberation Victory medal. Upon his return home from the war Dooley worked as a bookkeeper for Kemp Lumber Company until he founded the Artesia Tortilla Factory which he operated for 45 years until his retirement in 2001. Dooley served as past president of the Artesia chapter of the American GI Forum and was a member of the 20-30 Club, a young man's service organization in the 1950's. Dooley also was a member of the Artesia Historical Society and was recognized as the first male Living Treasure honoree in 1999. He was a lifelong member of El Getsemani United Methodist Church. Dooley is survived by a daughter Billie Garcia and husband Fred of Artesia and a son Greg Juarez and wife Suzanne of Denver, Colo. Grandsons Garrett Garcia and Phillip Garcia of Artesia and grandddaughter Anastasia Juarez of Denver. Great-grandchildren Alexis Garcia, Cody Garcia, Raul Garcia, Maggie Garcia, Darian Juarez and Scotti Parker all of Artesia. He is also survived by brothers Daniel Juarez and wife Catalina, Bricky Juarez and wife Stella of Artesia and Cruz Juarez and wife Amelia of El Paso, Texas. Sisters Rachel Analla and husband Raymond, and Lucy Rascon of Roswell and Linda Barrera of Artesia, and Virginia French of El Paso. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Mary Utterback. Dooley Juarez was Uncle Dooley and a special friend and mentor to countless children and young people over his lifetime and throughout the country. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Friday. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Trinity Temple Assembly of God. Pallbearers will be Garrett Garcia, Phillip Garcia, Sergio Sanchez, Ralph Analla, Japheth Rascon and Bill Rountree. Honorary pallbearers are all who called him Uncle Dooley. Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice or Artesia Good Samaritan Center.
