Ramona Barrera

Funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Ramona H. Barrera of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Barrera, 88, died Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Fr. V. J. will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. A rosary will be recited Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be Moises Rodriguez, Jr., Mike Perez, Abelardo Montes, Herman Chavez, Isaiah Chavez, Johnathan Garcia, and Demitrious Montes.

Ramona was born September 11, 1930 in Artesia, the daughter of Manuel and Angel (Gonzales) Heredia. She was a lifelong Artesia resident.

Ramona worked as a housekeeper for Artesia General Hospital and a cleaning lady for Yates Petroleum. She was a member of Our lady of Grace Catholic Church and loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mary E. Heredia and Tina Gamez; and a nephew Otis Chavez, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter Delma Barrera-Gomez of Artesia; son Lionel Barrera of Artesia; sisters Mary Chavez of Artesia and Enedina Mendoza of Reserve, N.M.; grandchildren Patricia and Katrina Montes, Gabriel, Valeria, and Genevieve Barrera; and 10 great-grandchildren.
