Ramon Orquiz

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Ramon C. Orquiz of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Orquiz, 86, died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Artesia General Hospital.

Fr. Martin Cornejo O.F.M. will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Tuesday beginnng at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Ramon was born August 31, 1928 in San Bernardo, Durango, Mexico; the son of Herminia Orquiz. He came to Artesia in the early 1950's from Mexico.

On November 7, 1951 he was married to Elisa De La Rosa in Artesia. She preceded him in death on February 25, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son Robert Orquiz; and a granddaughter Stephanie Dowing.

Ramon worked for a short time at Guy Cheverolet and then got hired on at Johnson Farms where he worked as a farm laborer for 49 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren when he wasn't working.

Survivors include his daughter Sylvia Orquiz and fiance Ysidro Florez of Artesia; son John Orquiz and wife Denise of Roswell, N.M.; brother Apolonio Orquiz and wife Elvira of Roswell, and Francisco Orquiz and wife Paz of El Paso, Texas; sister Maria of El Paso; 12 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
