Rachel Garcia

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Rachel Torrez Garcia, formerly of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Garcia, 93, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Heartland Nursing Center in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Burial will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bobby Hinojos, Ray Hinojos, Jerry Hernandez, Sal Hernandez, Richard Castillo, Steven Castillo, Augustin Garcia, and Aaron Diaz. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Hinojos, Nestor Hinojos Jr., Adrian Garcia and Larry Hernandez Jr.

A rosary is also scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Monday.

Mrs. Garcia was born November 23, 1916 in Artesia the daughter of Cleto Torrez and Maria Orona Torrez.

On November 13, 1937 she was married to Jesse Garcia in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a lifelong resident of Artesia. He preceded her in death April 14, 1993.
She was a housewife and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son Jimmy Garcia.

Survivors include son Fred Garcia and wife Esther of Artesia daughters Maria Elena Hinojos and husband Nestor of Hobbs, Elva Hernandez and husband Larry of Hobbs, Mellie Garcia and husband Benny of Artesia, Brenda Garcia of Hobbs, and Mary Galvan and husband Jesse of Ft. Worth, Texas daughterinlaw Teresa Garcia of Prescott Valley, Arizona sister Tillie Rodriguez of Artesia 19 grandchildren, 29 greatgrandchildren and 12 greatgreatgrandchildren.
