Porfiria Perez

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Porfiria Valencia Perez of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Perez, 93, died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Artesia General Hospital.

Deacon Pablo Merjil will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bobby Cortez, Jr., Aarmon Guillen, Marcelino Galindo, III, Jonathan Perez, Lorenzo Cortez, Jesse Perez, Lawrence Perez, Joe Anthony Reza, Felix Perez, Jr., and Christopher Galindo.

Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Porfiria was born September 15, 1920 in Lakewood, New Mexico the daughter of Abraham Valencia and Josepha Palice Valencia. She was a lifelong Artesia area resident.

In September of 1935 she was married to Juan Cantu Perez in Artesia. He preceded her in death February 14, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents sons Sammy Perez, Paul Perez, Sr., Armando Perez, Sr., and Johnny Perez, Jr. grandson Roy Cervantez and soninlaw Marcelino Galindo.

Porfiria was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Apostolado, and the Crucillistas. She loved to cook and made burritos for Navajo Refinery for many years. She enjoyed sewing for people, play bingo, and watch her grandchildren in Bulldog softball and football games. But most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters Toni Galindo of Artesia, Lupe Salmon of Lake Arthur, N.M., Emma Cervantes and husband Monserat of Hobbs, N.M., Dora Martinez and husband David of Artesia, and Olga Cortez and husband Robert, Sr. of Artesia sons Martin Perez and wife Martha of Artesia, Ismael Perez and wife Ida of Artesia, Domingo Mingo Perez of Artesia, and Felix Perex and wife Kate of Artesia 54 grandchildren and 186 greatgrandchildren and greatgreatgrandchildren.
