Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Pilar O. Florez of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Florez, 94, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Mission Arch Care Center in Roswell, New Mexico. Fr. Brian Guerrini, SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Bills, Caleb Florez, Jaye Johnson, Ben Huerta, Jr., James Calderon, Jason Calderon, Manuel Florez, Jr., and Brandon Brower. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Wednesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. A rosary service is also planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace. Mrs. Florez was born November 2, 1914 in Lamesa, Texas; the daughter of Refugio Ogas and Petra Velasquez Ogas. On October 17, 1931 she was married to Luis Florez in Artesia. She was a longtime Artesia resident. He preceded her in death May 6, 1969. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a nephew, three brothers, four sisters, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Pilar was a homemaker, a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and the Senior Citizens Center. Survivors include her sons Abel Florez of Deming, N.M., Manuel Florez of Fremont, Calif., Oscar Florez of Artesia, Luis Florez of Lakewood, CO., and Edward Florez of Artesia; daughters Lupe Flores of Artesia, Julia Huerta of Artesia, and Connie Holmes of Las Vegas, NV; sisters Manuela Zamudio of San Fernando, CA, Felipa Acosta of Hobbs, N.M., and Reynalda Angeles of Los Angeles, CA; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
