Philip R. Maxey Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 26, at First Presbyterian Church for Philip R. Maxey, 2614 W. Menefee Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Maxey, 78, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at his home. Rev. Steven Duetch, Rev. Charles Fulinwider, and Rev. Bo Lewis will officiate at the services with burial at the Masonic Cemetery, Hagerman, New Mexico. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Lodges. Mr. Maxey was born January 7, 1926 in Manheim, Pennsylvania; the son of Frank Maxey and Jean M. Troop Maxey. On Nov. 21, 1987 he was married to Mabel Curry in Hagerman. He came to Artesia in 1976 from Texas. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a Certified Dental Technician; member of First Presbyterian Church, 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Artesia Lodge 28 and Hagerman Felix Lodge 29, Las Cruces Scottish Rite. Survivors include his wife Mabel Maxey of the family home; sons Philip Mervin Maxey and wife Carroll of Pennsylvania, and William Maxey and wife Heidi of Pennsylvania; daughter Carol Ann Shutt and husband Robert of Pennsylvania; step-son Larry Nail and wife D'Aun of Loving, Texas; step-daughter Nona Petree and husband Allen of Ponca City, Okla.; sister Ruth Hurst and husband Stanley of Pennsylvania; 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-grandchildren.
