Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 12, at Terpening Son Chapel for Petra Gomez Valenzuela, 409 E. Quail Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Valenzuela, 79, died Saturday, May 8, 2004 at Mission Arch Care Center in Roswell, New Mexico. Richard B. Leaton will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricky Valenzuela, Ishmael Valenzuela Jr., Javier Valenzuela, Angel Caranza, James Tarin, and Adam Payan. Mrs. Valenzuela was born February 23, 1925 in Boston, Texas; the daughter of Augustine Gomez and Dorothy Renteria Gomez. On June 20, 1944 she was married to Mariano Valenzuela in Mulato, Mexico. She came to Artesia in 1955 from Mexico. He preceded her in death April 20, 1992. She was a housewife and member of Jehovah's Witnesses. A prayer service is also scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Terpening Son Chapel. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a daughter, and five brothers. Survivors include son Ishmael Valenzuela, Sr. and wife Erma of Artesia; brothers Juan Gomez of Midway, N.M. and Lupe Gomez of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters Carlota Tarin of Roswell, Gabina Veloz of Midway, and Romalia Garcia of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren Ricky Valenzuela of Albuquerque, NM, Ishmael Valenzuela, Jr. of Albuquerque, Javier Valenzuela of Artesia, Hilda Valenzuela of Albuquerque, JoElda Otero Albuquerque, and JoAnn Valenzuela of Artesia; and seven great-grandchildren.
