Memorial services are scheduled at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ for Perry C. Andrews of Artesia, New Mexico. Michael Joiner and Charles Lindsay will officiate at the service.
Perry, 69, left this life on Tuesday, July 3, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas after a brief illness.
Perry was born on October 15, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee to Cecil and Thelma Duck Robertson Andrews. He grew up in Caraway, Arkansas until age 15 when his family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico. It was in Carlsbad that he met Treva Louise Samuels at a mutual friends wedding in 1964. They were married on August 6, 1965 in Carlsbad and shared their love for more than 46 years. Perry and Treva were blessed with two children, Lane and Paige, followed Perrys favorite daughterinlaw, Elizabeth, and his favorite soninlaw, Luke, who gave them seven amazing grandchildren. He was Pa to his grandchildren and he adored each one of them.
Perry came to Artesia in 1988 from Tularosa, New Mexico. He was Principal at Artesia Junior High School, retiring in 2001. In Tularosa, he served the community as Superintendent of Schools for more than 14 years. He began his career in education in Des Moines, New Mexico, as a Teacher Principal.
Holding Bachelor Degrees in History and Education and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration, he loved education, his teachers, and the children in his care. He received his Master Gardener certification in 2003. Perry was a member of Hermosa Drive Church of Christ, the Artesia Library Board, and New Mexico School Administrators. He was an active volunteer at the Church of Christ Outreach Center. He loved gardening and enjoyed sharing his bountiful harvests with many friends. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed photography and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Treva, of the family home son, Lane Andrews and wife Elizabeth of Bentonville, Arkansas daughter, Paige Strawn and husband Luke of Tulsa, Oklahoma grandchildren Ethan Andrews, Noah Andrews, Summer Andrews, Turner Strawn, Shelby Kate Strawn, Mack Thomas Strawn, and Blane Strawn sister Patti Gurley of Jonesboro, Arkansas his motherinlaw, Millie Samuels of Carlsbad one aunt, Annie Mae Rudicell and two cousins, Sharon Dickinson and Benny Rudicell, of Alabama and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, his grandparents, and his fatherinlaw, Thomas Samuels.
