Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Hermosa Church of Christ in Artesia for longtime Artesia resident Audrey Pauline Castleberry.
Mrs. Castleberry, 90, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Casa Maria Nursing Center in Roswell, N.M..
There will also be visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 10:00 a.m.
Michael Joiner and Darrell Brown will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Perry Castleberry, Greg Castleberry, Mark Castleberry, Kenny Simmons, Jeff Simmons, Michael Swift, David Castleberry and Cory Patton. The Elders of Hermosa Drive Church of Christ. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Pauline was born September 12, 1923 in Thrall, Texas the daughter of Walter R. Shortess and Mary Ann Scruggs Shortess. She came to Artesia in 1938 from Texas.
On June 29, 1940 she was married to Chester Castleberry in Artesia. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son, Ronald Castleberry.
She was a Administrative Secretary at the New Mexico Department of Child Protective Services. She graduated from Artesia High School in 1940. Pauline was a member of Hermosa Drive Church of Christ, the President of the Sunrise Rebekah Lodge, a member of Good Sams Travel Club and she volunteered at the Senior Center. She was also a member of the Country Club Church of Christ in Roswell. In 1959 she was chosen as Mrs. Artesia and she loved to quilt and cook.
Survivors include her son Charles Castleberry and wife Betty of Stephenville, Texas daughters Dana Swift and husband Larry of Roswell and Donna Simmons and husband Ken of Austin, Texas grandchildren Shawna Buckner, Perry Castleberry, Greg Castleberry, Erin Castleberry, David Castleberry, Mark Castleberry, Kenny Simmons, Jana Anthony, Jeff Simmons, Melissa Mayo and Michael Swift 14 greatgrandchildren and 2 greatgreatgrandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to the New Mexico Christian Childrens Home in Portales, N.M.
