Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Monday, December 10, at Woodbine Cemetery for Osburn Oneil Simmons of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Simmons, 85, died December 3, 2018 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell, N.M.
Ed Hickey will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be members of the United States Army. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Monaco and Johnny Robinson.
Osburn was born August 3, 1933 in Gran Quivira, New Mexico to Lonnie Simmons and Mary (Jones) Simmons.
He enlisted with the United States Army in July, 1953 and began his service at Fort Chaffie, Arkansas. During his military career, he served abroad in Germany and Korea and completed a tour of duty in the Vietnam War.
On January 26, 1969, he married Mollie Lou Randall in Artesia. The couple made their residence in Colorado Springs, Colorado where Osburn was stationed at Fort Carson.
Osburn retired from active duty in August, 1975 and began working as an automobile technician in civilian life. In 1979, Osburn and Mollie relocated their family to Artesia to live closer to their relatives.
Osburn was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, marksmanship, and archery. He was well-regarded among friends and family for his mechanical knowledge and ability to design and fabricate all manner of machinery.
Survivors include his wife, Mollie; sons Tommy Simmons of Belen, NM and James Simmons of Sacramento, CA; daughter Cindy Simmons-Bates of Las Cruces, NM and grandchildren Connor Simmons, Alan Simmons, and Kaelyn Simmons.
Osburn was preceded in death by his parents, a set of twin sisters, and a brother.
