Orville Chambers

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at First Baptist Church for Orville U. Chambers, W. Sears Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. PMr. Chambers, 83, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 in Artesia. PRev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Scott, Justin Hobbs, Vern Bolton, Cooper Henderson, Robert Duncan, and J.D. Graham. Honorary pallbearers will be A.H.S. Class of 1940, all A.H.S. Quarterback sons and Quarterback Club members; Adult 6 Sunday School Class, Glen Donaldson, Glenn Collier, Van Evert, John Simons, David Simons, Bones Newsom, L.G. Henderson, Dave Collier, and Lyle Terpening. PMr. Chambers was born December 10, 1922 in Laverne, Oklahoma; the son of Fredrick Benjamin Chambers and Leta Melvin Coates Chambers. He moved from Oklahoma to Hope, N.M. in 1924 . POn February 11, 1945 he was married to Rita Pack in Cottonwood, N.M. PHe was a District Warehouse Foreman for PNM Gas Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church, coached Little League Baseball for 18 years, volunteer coach for 6th Grade Football, past member of the Lions Club, and longtime member of the Artesia Quarterback Club. PHe was preceded in death by his parents; and by a daughter Gloria Hobbs. PSurvivors include his wife Rita Chambers of the family home; son Bobby Chambers and wife Michele of Artesia; daughter Leta Scott and husband Randy of Artesia; brother Gene Chambers and wife Lois of Roswell, N.M.; sister Roberta Havens of Artesia; grandchildren Justin Hobbs and fiance Beth of Weatherford, Texas, Sara Scott of Artesia, Codey Scott of Artesia, and Sunny Biggs of Midland, Texas; a great-grandson Tyler Kelley of Midland; and numerous nieces and nephews including Gerene Fanning and husband Johnny, Eddie Joe Havens and wife Carol, Alicia Arthur and husband Jeff, William Chambers, and Patricia Wonders and husband Scot.
