Oralia Contreras

Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Oralia Deanda Contreras of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Contreras, 82, passed away on June 18, 2017 at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Burial will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Keith Vargas, Mark Vargas, John Sosa, Lee Roberts, Niko Valenzuela ad Demitri Valenzuela. A rosary will be held at 9:00 a.m. at the church. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 20 at Terpening & Son Mortuary from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Oralia was born on October 1, 1934 in Ojinaga. Mexico; the daughter of Gilbert Deanda and Maria Nieves (Lopez) Deanda.

She was a homemaker and a cook at LaFonda Restaurant, a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, loved taking care of her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed cooking and music.

She is preceded in death by her husband Martin Rivas Vargas, her parents, a son Martin Vargas Jr., 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Survivors include her son Henry Vargas and wife Betty of Rio Rancho, NM; daughters Anna Angulo of Hobbs, NM and Refugia "Cookie" Angel of Artesia; brother Eusebio Deanda of Arizona; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
