Ophelia was born June 25, 1927 in Picacho, New Mexico; the daughter of Vicente Florez and Genoveva (Pineda) Florez. She was a longtime Artesia resident.
On May 23, 1950 she was married to Encarnacion Orosco in Carlsbad. He preceded her in death February 10, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son Manuel Orosco; and 12 sibling.
Ophelia was a housekeeper and had attended Trinity Temple and was a former member of the Spanish Assembly of God in Lake Arthur, N.M.
Our beloved mother, Ophelia Florez Orosco, lived a wonderful long life, filled with loving family, good friends and cherished by her children and grandchildren. She was very healthy and active until she reached 78 years of age, driving all over town in daddy's big blue truck, even though she was a very petite lady. Our momma was such a hard worker who truly relished being a homemaker and taking good care of our daddy. Her home was always spotless and her yard immaculate. Summers would find her pulling weeds tirelessly and tending her red roses until sunset. She loved all animals and couldn't resist petting any animal within reach, especially cats. She always made time to visit her friends in time of need, especially widows, bringing them home-cooked food and offering comfort.
Because her illness became so serious, mom's last years were spent at Landsun Homes of Carlsbad. While there she made many good friends and adjusted beautifully. She was blessed to have received excellent care and lots of love by her caregivers. We, her family will be eternally grateful to Dr. Perkowski, her nurses Keisha, Mindy, Lupe and Ann. The wonderful aides who so lovingly tended to her and made her days bright and Landsun Hospice (Sabrina, Diane, Gail, Stephanie & Daisy). She loved you all so much. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you did for our precious mother. May God bless each and every one of you.
Most importantly, we recall our mother loving Jesus with all her heart, learning all she could about Him and teaching us. Her eyes would light up when she would talk about the happy day when she would finally meet her Savior face-to-face and walk the streets of gold. As she taught us, we firmly believe in God's promises. Our mother is home now in perfect health, reunited with her loved ones in heaven. We will forever love you and miss you mama until we meet again. The laughs were many, memories of her endless and our sorrow at her loss, immense.
Survivors include her daughters Delma Florez and husband Augustine of Carlsbad, Elsie Mata and husband Joe of Carlsbad, and Norma Miranda and husband Manuel of Artesia; son Joe Orosco and wife Luisa of Lubbock, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; sister Reynalda Aguilar of Artesia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
