Olivia Chavarria

A memorial mass is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May. 29, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Olivia Rodriguez Chavarria of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Chavarria, 93, died Monday, May 25, 2015 at her home.

Fr. Martin Cornejo O.F.M. will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Soliz, Myron Soliz, Londie Tarrango, Ignacio Martinez, Joseph Matinez, Thad Davis, Michael Ortega, and Kenneth Chavarria.

A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Olivia was born July 22, 1921 in Artesia, New Mexico; the daughter of Basilio Rodriguez and Manuela (Calderon) Rodriguez. She was a lifelong Artesia resident.

In 1943 she was married to Thomas J. Chavarria in Artesia. He preceded her in death November 23, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son Eli Chavarria; and granddaughters Erica and Cassie Chavarria.

Olivia was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She enjoyed to crochet and to play games with her family.

Survivors include her daughters Hilda Juerta of Artesia, and Rosella Castro and husband Ruben of Artesia; son Tommy R. Chavarria of Artesia; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Susie Gomez of Artesia.
