Ofelia Sanders

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, July 27 at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Hagerman, New Mexico for Ofelia Granados Sanders of Hagerman.

Mrs. Sanders, 74, died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Heartland Nursing Center in Artesia, New Mexico.

Fr. Brian Guerrini, SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia. Pallbearers will be Fabio Sanders, Boonie Michael Gonzales, Marcos Cabral, Carlos GutierrezJose El Cabral, and Roman Granados. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Gutierrez, Jason Gutierrez, David Gutierrez, Eric Smith, Miguel Cabral, and Ruben Cabral.

Visitation will be at St. Catherines Thursday beginning at 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be at the church Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

Ofelia was born April 19, 1938 in Chihuahua, Mexico the daughter of Juan Granados and Esther Marquez Granados. She was a longtime Hagerman resident.

On Sept. 24, 1955 she was married to Gordon Sanders in Guadalupe, Mexico.

Ofelia was a homemaker and a member of St. Catherines Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Crucillistas, and the Legion of Mary.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.

Survivors include her husband Gordon Sanders of the family home daughter Melissa Morales and husband Carlos of Carlsbad, N.M. sisters Apolonia Granados of Hobbs, N.M. and Epifania Gonzalez of Ft. Hancock, Texas brother Juan Granados of Garland, Texas grandchildren Fabio Sanders and Boonie Michael Gonzales numerous nieces and nephews including Velia Gutierrez, Javier Contreras that she raised as her own.
