O'Dessa Gurley

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Terpening Son Chapel in Artesia for former Artesia resident O'Dessa Craig Gurley of Boles Acres, New Mexico. Mrs. Gurley, 87, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Wilson, Danny Flores, Gary Boles, Jake Boles, David Boles, and Eddie Boles. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Goss, Billy Joe Brooks, Davy Reeves, Jake Van Winkle and Nathan Tickner. Visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Gurley was born September 24, 1918 in Tahoka, Texas; the daughter of Robert Lee Craig and Nannie J. Lackey Craig. On April 27, 1936 she was married to Denver Gurley in Post, Texas. They came to Weed in 1936, moved to Alamogordo in 1964, and came to Artesia in 1974. Her husband preceded her in death March 7, 1994. She returned to Alamogordo in 1996. She was a housewife and member of the Baptist Denomination. She had been chosen as an Honoree of the Sacramento Mountains Historical Society. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother; a grandson Brian Gurley; and by five brothers; and seven sisters. Survivors include her son Sherrell Gurley of Artesia; a daughter Wanda Boles of Alamogordo; brothers Robert Craig of Tahoka, and W.C. Craig of Waco, Texas; sisters Barbara Hawkins of Austin, Texas and Pearl Herman of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren Rebecca Reeves and husband Davy, Gary Boles and wife Dorothy, Teresa Flores and husband Danny, Annie Allison and husband Brian, Eddie Boles and wife Tamatha; 14 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
