Nicolasa Orquiz

Services are scheduled for 10 am Tuesday, November 23, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Rosery starting at 9:30 am for Nicolasa Huerta Orquiz of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Orquiz, 93, died on November 19, 2021 in Artesia.

Father Vijay will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Herman Orquiz, Theodore Olguin, Timothy Orquiz, Zeke Orquiz, Daniel O. Torrez, Roman Huerta, Raul Rodriguez Jr., and Brandon Orquiz. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, Eric Ortiz and Obed Ortiz.

Nicolasa was born on September 10, 1928 in Terlingua, Texas; the daughter of Francisco Huerta and Filomena Salmon Huerta. They moved to Artesia in 1934. On March 16, 1950 she married the love of her life Hermenegildo G. Orquiz.

She was a devoted Catholic at Our Lady of Grace Church and was a member of the Apostolado and Cursillistas.

She loved spending her time with family, especially her grandchildren. Giving great big hugs and making sure everyone was fed. Her hobbies included tending to her garden, plants, crocheting and enjoyed watching her chickens.

God allowed us to be blessed with sucha a wonderful, caring and loving mother for many years, and now she is rewarded with eternal rest and her beloved family waiting to wrap their arms around her. We will forever hold you in our hearts and the many memories we shared.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hermenegildo Orquiz, her parents, daughters Lucy O. Torrez and Lupe H. Orquiz, and also by 20 siblings.

Survivors include her children Senaida Rodriguez and husband Raul, Frances H. Perez and husband Jose, Victoria O. Mariscal and husband Ventura, and Hermenegildo H. "Chilo" Orquiz Jr. and wife Monique; 25 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.
