Graveside services are scheduled at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 2, at Woodbine Cemetery for Nellie Vermillion, Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Vermillion, 81, died Friday, August 29, 2003 at her home. J. T. Ross will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Tom Weir, Barry Hager, Dwayne Pounds, Josh Vermillion, Otis Woolsey, and Bill Vermillion. Mrs. Vermillion was born November 30, 1921 in Noble, Oklahoma; the daughter of Jasper Smith and Lula Smith Smith. She came to Artesia in 1935 from Oklahoma; and served in the Womens Army Corps during World War II. On May 5, 1946 she was married to Jack R. Vermillion, Sr. in Artesia. He preceded her in death October 2, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a sister Della Hemler. Mrs. Vermillion was a housewife and former sales clerk at Hub Clothiers; and was a member of Eighth Grand Church of Christ and the VFW Auxiliary. Survivors include a son Jack Vermillion, Jr. of Showlow, Ariz.; a daughter Patti Wier of Artesia; grandchildren Joshua Vermillion of Silver City, N.M., Shannon Vermillion of Las Cruces, N.M., and Zach Wier of Artesia; and three great-grandchildren.
