Murrell Clanton

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, at First Baptist Church for Murrell W. Clanton of Artesia, New Mexico. PMr. Clanton, 87, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at his home. PRoy Lee Newsom and Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tracy Clanton, Toby Clanton, Travis Clanton, Rocky Bruce Neel, Johnny Neel, and Doug Neel. Visitation will be at Terpening amp; Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. PMr. Clanton was born March 10, 1919 in Griffithville, Arkansas; the son of Clyde Clanton and Bertha Mae Wood Clanton. POn July 10, 1939 he was married to Grace Newsom in Bakersfield, California. He came to Artesia 55 years ago from Midland, Texas. PHe was self employed as a Carpenter Contractor and retired in 1983. PHe was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Janie Smith; brothers W.C. Clanton, and R.B. Clanton; sisters Clydean Echols, and Wilma Jean Ally; and a granddaughter Ebby Smith.
Survivors include his wife Grace Clanton of the family home; son Lyndell W. Clanton and wife Olevia of Rankin, Texas; brothers Danny Clanton and Gerald Clanton both of Golden, Missouri; sisters Dee Scarbrough of Midland, Texas, Wanda Gortney of Kingsland, Texas, and Alveta Szitar of Mineola, Texas; grandchildren Travis Clanton of Mertzon, Texas, Toby Clanton of Saint Angelo, Texas, and Tracy Clanton of Rankin; great-grandchildren Bradley Clanton of Rankin, Amanda Clanton of Rankin, Jake Clanton of Saint Angelo, and Brandon Clanton of Saint Angelo.
