Minnie Medlin Taylor was born on October 29, 1905 in Midland, Texas to Hawk and Dink Medlin. Minnie was raised on the family ranch, the 0l 'dobe place, nine miles east of Lovington. The story has it that Hawk bought the ranch for 25 and a black horse; it had a well and a one room adobe house. Minnie, along with her only sibling; younger brother Buddy Melton Medlin, attended school in Lovington and graduated from Lovington High School in 1921. Following High School she attended a business college in Lubbock, Texas. Minnie then returned to New Mexico where she was awarded her State Elementary Teaching Certificate, on September 1, 1926, and proceeded to teach school in a one room school house at Maljamar. Ending her short teaching career, was her marriage in 1928 to lifelong friend, J.W. Buzz Taylor Jr. The young couple were inseparable and worked hard at what both of them knew very well: ranching. Their first home was north of Roswell where Buzz worked for area rancher Cort Marley. In 1938 they moved to a ranch east of Hope and worked there until they bought their own place in 1941. Buzz and Minnie, with money they had saved from ranching and rodeos, bought a small ranch on the Penasco River about thirty miles west of Hope, N.M. from Boyd and Ernestine Chesser Williams. Buzz lived out his days on the family ranch and Minnie remained there alone for several years until she was moved to Roswell due to her declining health. Buzz and Minnie had one child, Harvey Dale Taylor, who was born in 1933. Minnie was a good Christian woman and attended the Church of Christ every chance she had. Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; Hawk and Dink Medlin, her brother; Buddy Medlin, her husband; Buzz Taylor, her daughter-in-law; Francine Chandler Taylor and great-granddaughter Mandy Lee Taylor. Survivors include her son, Harvey Dale Taylor and wife Nona of Lovington; 4 grandchildren, Kevin Taylor of Alamogordo, Kendall and Claudia Taylor of Alamogordo, Jim and Kim Taylor Scroggin of Artesia and Kent and ReChele Taylor of Roswell; and 10 great grandchildren.
