Services are scheduled at 10:00 am Friday, February 29th at Faith Baptist Church in Artesia for Mildred Capps, 1401 Hermosa Drive, Artesia, New Mexico. PRev. Michael Elliott will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers are Norbert McCaw, Kent Rogers, Mirl Lindsey, James Villa, David Bethke, Geary Lindsey and Sam McCaw. Honorary pallbearers are Thomas T.Q. Rogers, Kevin Hinderlighter, Scott Pettus and Ben White. PMrs. Capps passed away Tuesday February 26th, 2008 at her home. PMildred Aliene Capps was born in Jerusalem, Arkansas on July 3rd, 1929. She was the daughter of K. D. and Lola Byers. PMildred married David Capps on November 1, 1948 in Okemah, Oklahoma. She and David visited friends in Artesia in 1955; they liked the town and ended up living here the rest of their lives. Mildred worked as a bookkeeper for George Boyce trucking among other places and prepared taxes for in
iduals for many years. She and David were active in the Benevolent Order of the Elks as well as the Moose Lodge and many charitable activities around town. PDavid preceded her in death three years to the day. She was also was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers Dallas and Clellon Byers; and great-grandchildren Joshua Lindsey and Sterling McCaw. PMildred and Dave left a legacy of love and laughter. They raised four daughters and were loving grandparents to twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Camping trips and picnics at Walnut Grove are some of her familys fondest memories. PSurvivors include her daughters Carole Sue Susie McCaw and husband Norbert; Brenda Rogers and husband Kent; Debbie Lindsey and husband Mirl; Sandy Villa and husband James all of Artesia. She also has a brother, Theodore Byers of Bartlesville, OK along with a dear niece Linda Droigk and her husband Charles. Grandchildren are Nora White and husband Ben of Artesia; David Bethke and wife Anna of Artesia; Kevin Henderlighter and wife Sandra of Pinedale, WY; Geary Lindsey and wife Angela of Albuquerque; Marty Pettus and husband Scott of Camp Pendelton, CA; Amy Lindsey of Albuquerque, Sam McCaw and wife Jackie of Artesia, Sherrie Collins and husband Mitchell of Norfolk, VA; Thomas T.Q. Rogers currently serving with the US Navy in Iraq; Kimberly Rogers of Artesia; and Jamie and Krista Villa of Artesia. Surviving great-grandchildren are Kayla and Geary Lindsey; Rubin and Shyan Bethke; Zachary and Max White; Wyatt and Kadence McCaw; Brandon and Marisa Collins; and Makenzie Pettus.
