Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 14, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Mercedes Leyva Bustamante, 1305 S. Roselawn Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Bustamante, 88, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. A rosary is also scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Bustamante was born August 10, 1921 in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico; the daughter of Guillermo Leyva and Francisca Carrasco Leyva. On Oct. 8, 1938 she was married to Lino Bustamante, Sr. in Ojinaga.She came to Artesia in 1945 from Carlsbad, N.M. He preceded her in death Feb. 15, 1998. She was a housewife and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and was a Foster Grandparent for Head Start. Survivors include sons Manuel Bustamante and wife Connie of Artesia, Daniel Bustamante and wife Mary of Artesia, Epifanio Bustamante and wife Irene of Artesia, Lino Bustamante, Jr. of Artesia, and Jimmy Bustamante and wife Nora of Artesia; daughters Carmen Garcia and husband Tony of Artesia, Lupe Bustamante of Artesia, Alice Aguilar and husband Isaac of Artesia, Yolanda Rodriguez and husband Basilio of Artesia, and Mary Chavez and husband Joe of Artesia; brother Cruz Leyva of Presidio, Texas; 40 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
