Mellie Castillo

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at First Baptist Church for Mellie Garcia Castillo, Artesia, New Mexico.
Ms. Castillo, 73, died Friday, April 8, 2016 at Artesia General Hospital.
Nolan Frederick will officiate at the services. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Monday.
Mellie was born November 30, 1942 in Artesia; the daughter of Jesus Garcia and Rachel (Torrez) Garcia. She returned to Artesia in 2002 from Albuquerque, N.M.
Ms. Castillo was a Christian, a homemaker and a fantastic cook. She enjoyed camping, gardening, making people laugh and smile. She was a very honest, loving and giving person.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Jimmy T. Garcia.
Survivors include her longtime companion Benny Garcia of Artesia; sons Steven Castillo and Richard Castillo both of Artesia; a brother Freddie Garcia of Artesia; sisters Mary Hinojos, Elva Hernandez and Brenda Garcia all of Hobbs, N.M.; a granddaughter Vanessa Rashe'l Lancaster; a great grandson Makiah Matthew Sosa; and numerous "kids" that called her Mom.
