Maxine Winters

Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 6 at First Baptist Church for Maxine Winters, Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Winters, 66, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002 in Artesia. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Aaron Bowen, Jared Bowen, Chad Harcrow, Stuart Johnston, Stephen Johnston, Nolan Winters, and Lance Atkins. Maxine was born March 24, 1936 in Carlsbad, New Mexico; the daughter of Joseph M. Howerton and Lottie E. Caddell Howerton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Charles L. Copeland; sisters Martha Jennings and Lois Philpott; and brothers Doyle Howerton and Leo Howerton. She married her lifelong companion, Gerald A. Winters, in Carlsbad. She was a lifelong area resident and homemaker; and was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and the Intercessory Prayer Ministry. Survivors include her husband Gerald A. Jerry Winters of the family home; daughters Terri Bowen and husband Patrick of Artesia and Tammy Johnston and husband Ronnie of Artesia; sons Tim Winters and wife Rita of Artesia and Tom Winters and wife Lisbeth of Artesia; brothers Glenn Howerton of Artesia and Jerrell Howerton of Carlsbad; sisters Ruth McGladrey of Seattle, Wash. and Barbara Hawkins of Lubbock, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Vision 2000 Building Fund at 322 W. Grand, Artesia, NM 88210.
