Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Monday, November 18, at First Baptist Church for Mildred Maxine Horner of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Horner, 89, died November 14, 2019 in Artesia.
Bro. Rick Sullivan and Pastor Ty Houghtaling will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kane Horner, Decker Reno, Kael Chambers, Micah Mariano, Jonathan Gray, and Bradley Burks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Maxine’s 10 great-grandsons.
Maxine was born May 21, 1930 in Zinc, Arkansas, the daughter of Dallas Callahan and Fannie (Cochran) Callahan.
On October 8, 1950 she was married to Robert Horner Sr. in Artesia. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents Dallas and Fannie Callahan; brother-in-law Bill Horner and wife Elaine; sister-in-law Elizabeth Terry and husband Kent; brother-in-law Jim Liles.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Burks and husband Rick; sons Robert Horner Jr. and wife Pam, Kevin Horner and wife Patty, Kern Horner and wife JoBeth; grandson Kane Horner and wife Mykol and their sons Decker and Kace; granddaughter KayAnne Gray and husband Jonathan and their children MilliAnn, Jeighton and Locklyn; grandson Brandon Burks and wife Amy and their children Brenna, Mandy, Greyson, and Raylene; granddaughter Cami Mariano and husband Micah and their sons Seth, Aiden, Greyson, and Hayes; granddaughter Logan Horner; grandson Bradley Burks; grandson Kael Chambers and wife Amber and their children Alyssa, Santiago, and Jax; brother Johnny Callahan and wife Mary and sister Ellonia Miller and husband Jim. She is also survived by brother-in-law Ronald Horner and wife Patti; sister-in-law Mary Liles and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maxine was a long-time resident of Artesia. She loved being a busy housewife, taking care of Bob, supporting the family farm, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a proud community supporter of sports, arts, and agriculture. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and helping others in her community. She was an avid volunteer at her church, activity center, and Meals-on-Wheels.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the care Maxine received from Stephanie Jones FNP, Encompass Health, and Good Life Senior Living.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Vision 2020 at First Baptist Church Artesia or the Baptist Children’s Home in Portales, NM.
