Services are scheduled at 10:00 AM Monday, November 10, at Pinon Baptist Church for Max Cartright, 4551 Owen Prather Rd., Pinon, New Mexico. Mr. Cartright, 91, died Friday, November 7, 2003 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center, in Artesia, New Mexico. Rev. Wayne Brazil and Rev. Dave Ratzlaff will officiate at the services with burial at Pinon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joel Carson, Jake Van Winkle, Alden Elkins, Buster Stevenson, Slim Stewart, and Terry Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Merritt, Rafael Orosco, Billy Joe Brooks, Ernest Harwell, and Charlie Schultz,. Mr. Cartright was born June 14, 1912 in the Manzano Mountains of New Mexico; the son of William Cartright and Mattie Gourley Cartright. On July 31, 1947 he was married to Nona Ophelia Means in Albuquerque, NM. He was a longtime Otero County resident. She preceded him in death June 22, 1978. He was a rancher and member of the Weed Baptist Church in Weed, New Mexico He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and 3 sisters. Survivors include step-sons Preston Means and wife Alma of Artesia, and Lewis Means of Artesia; sister-in-law Daisy Cartright of Hobbs, NM; grandchildren Judy Ann Yates of Artesia, Peggy Sue Miller of Artesia, and Terry Robert Means of Ft. Worth, Texas; 7 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; nieces Carolyn Jackson of Phoenix, Arizona, Bonnie Smith of Artesia, Donna Thorp of Hobbs, Maxine Jurgens of California, Trixie McGraw of Wyoming, and Pat Smith of Utah; nephew Bill Wright of Truth or Consequences, NM; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
