A celebration of life memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, at First Christian Church for Maurise Stewart of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Stewart, 89, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his home.
David Grousnick will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Artesia Bulldog Sam's and Bill Jackson.
Maurise was born on June 21, 1927 in Ryan, Oklahoma; the son of James Monroe Stewart and Clara Gann Stewart. On February 1, 1951 he was married to Joyce McCulloch in Duncan, Oklahoma. They came to Artesia in 1960 from Tatum, New Mexico.
He worked for Halliburton Services in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico for over 35 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Lovington Masonic Lodge and the Artesia Bulldog Sam's. Maurise attended the First Christian Church in Artesia and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and his favorite food was Twinkies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Calvin Stewart, sisters Audrey Waggoner and Maurine Carter, and a grandson Reese Hunter.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Stewart of Artesia; son Rusty Stewart of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughters Kay Stewart of Deming, N.M., Karen Palmer of Albuquerque, N.M. and Kristy Powell of Las Cruces, N.M.; grandchildren Bryan Hunter, Nick Palmer, Sam Palmer, and Shane Stewart; great-grandchildren Chad Stewart, Callie Stewart, Mason and Hudson Hunter.
