Matea Cano

Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 27, at Terpening Son Mortuary for Matea R. Cano of Carlsbad, New Mexico. Mrs. Cano, 82, died Thursday, June 23, 2005 at her home. Rev. Michael Bingham will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Her family members will be the pallbearers. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary starting at 2:00 P.M. Sunday. Mrs. Cano was born September 21, 1922 in Escondida, New Mexico; the daughter of Juan Romero and Juana Nora Romero. On April 26, 1943 she was married to Higinio C. Cano in El Paso, Texas. He preceded her in death Jan. 24, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, one brother, and two sisters. She was a homemaker and a longtime resident of Artesia. Survivors include her sons Higinio Cano, Jr. of Artesia, Jesus Cano and wife Ruth of Artesia, Santiago Cano and wife Rachel of San Marcos, Texas, Joe Cano and wife Maria of Ft. Worth, Texas, and David Cano of Ft. Worth; daughters Juanita Sanchez and husband Asencion of Carlsbad and Lucy Ramon and husband Joe of Ft. Worth, sisters Rosa Cano of Artesia, Natalia Vibanco of Garry, Indiana, and Lucia Romero of Artesia; brothers Richard Romero and Bennie Romero both of Odessa, Texas; 24 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
