Mat Elrod

Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Hermosa Church of Christ for Mat Earl Elrod, Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Elrod, 92, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home.

Michael Joiner will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary.

Mat was born August 30, 1921 in Harmon County, Oklahoma the son of James Clem Elrod and Ada Olivia Lea Elrod.

On June 30, 1949 he was married to Dorothy Saltsman in Sanger, Texas. He came to Artesia in July 1969 from Corsicana, Texas.

He was a truck driver for Western Oil Transportation Co. He was a member of Hermosa Church of Christ, the Spit and Whittle Club, and the old Tastee Freeze Coffee group.

He was preceded death by his parents, a son Jimmy Elrod and a brother Locket E. Elrod.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Elrod of Artesia sons David Elrod of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Deryl Elrod and wife Nancy of Artesia daughter Donna Clark and husband Raymond of Artesia sister Opal Lea Phillips of Hurst, Texas grandchildren Michele Garcia, Shaun Elrod, Lisa Elrod, Joshua Elrod, Staci Guy, Erin Earl, Dustin Teel, Jacob Teel, Andrew Teel, Lucas Clark, Ramiro Frescas, and Adriana Frescas 15 greatgrandchidlren.
