Mary Clara Means, 92, of Lincoln County, NM, went home on June 19, 2023, in Artesia, NM at her daughter Amy's home.
Mary was born on March 15, 1931, to the late Francis Gerald and Daisy Rose Clements in Leonardtown, MD. Mary's early years were spent running through the water release from a fire hydrant, participating in the Easter egg roll on the White House lawn, and watching presidential arcades traveling down Pennsylvania Avenue.
After the Second World War, she moved to New Mexico, where she married and had six children. After divorcing her first husband she worked as waitress and ironed clothes to support her family. In 1962, Mary met Henry Isaac Means, and they wed in August of 1962 just two weeks after they met, going on to have two more kids.
Though she didn't finish high school, Mary proudly completed her General Education Degree in 1977. Mary was a talented seamstress and made dresses for special occasions, including family weddings. When she wasn't filling her home with warmth and laughter, she could be found telling jokes to anyone. Her family will miss her kind heart and quick wit.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Isaac Means; children Lola Marie Heard, Brenda Lois Mansfield, Dennis Leroy Porter; and Granddaughter, Amanda Greer. As well as nine sisters, three brothers, and five sons-in-law.
