Graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19 at Twin Oaks Memorial Park for Mary Catherine "Meme" McGonagill of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. McGonagill, 86, died Saturday, October 13, 2017 in Carlsbad, N.M. at Landsun Health Services.

Mr. Gary Smith will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Ray Martin, Timothy Martin, Anthony Martin, Jim Ellett, Bill Runyan, and Richard Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be James Arnold, Michael McGonagill, Nicholas Thompson, Gary Smith, and Jim Runyan.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Wednesday, October 18, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Mary was born November 3, 1930 in Carlsbad to Irvin Lock Martin and Gertrude (Runyan) Martin. She was a lifelong Artesia resident.

On July 19, 1964 she was married to Alex Edwin McGonagill in Artesia. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother Irvin Richard Martin; sister Meredith Martin-Weeden; and a niece Bonnie Duggar.

Mary was a graduate of Loretta High and Academy School in El Paso, Texas in 1948. She was an elementary school teacher for a year and then became a homemaker. She was a member of the Garden Club, Homemakers Club, and a group leader and prayer circle leader at her church. She enjoyed site seeing, reading, and drawing.

She is survived by her nephews Ray Martin and wife Karen of Hope, N.M. who was her caretakers, Richard Martin,and Michael McGonagill; nieces Pamela Weeden-Sturdy and Marilyn McGonagill; 10 great nieces and nephews including Timothy Martin who she thought of as a grandson; and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.
