Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 1, at Faith Baptist Church for longtime Artesia resident Mary Collier Garner. Mrs. Garner died Monday, September 27, 2004 in Arlington, Texas. Rev. Michael Elliott will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sammy Blount, Bob Bratcher, Curtis Harrison, Dennis Kinsey, Bill Laman, Dan Lewis, and Cheto Moreno. Mrs. Garner was born September 27 in Putnam, Oklahoma; the daughter of Sam Collier and Ethel Park Collier. On June 10, 1937 she was married to E.P. Dugan Garner in Carlsbad, N.M. She came to Artesia in 1947. Her husband preceded her in death September 25, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her mother; her father; and by one brother. She was retired from First National Bank and was a member of Faith Baptist Church; the Altrusa Club and Good Samaritan Helpers Club. Survivors include sons Vernon Garner and wife Sharon of Arlington, Texas and Sammie Garner and wife Martha of Hobbs, N.M.; a sister Velda Davis of Wichita, Kansas; granddaughters Verna Henderson and husband Jeff of Arlington, Tammy Mashburn of Albuquerque, N.M., Julie Garner and husband Joey Benne of Arlington, Kim Baquet of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Brandi Ivey of Lubbock, Texas, Christy Garner of Arlington, and Joy Dawn Foy and husband Jeff of Arlington; a grandson Phil Garner and wife Kelli of Perkins, Okla.; and great-grandchildren Chelsey Johnson, Brandon Mears, Krista, Daniel, Philip and Stephani Garner, Shiloh and Siera Hanson, Aaron Ivey, and Samantha and Nicole Baquet. The family suggestsmemorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
