Marisa Barragan

Services for Marisa Nieves Barragan, formerly of Artesia, N.M., will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Saturday, September 21 at 9:30 a.m.

Miss Barragan, 32, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 at home in Jensen Beach, Florida.

Michael Briseno of Las Cruces, NM will be officiating the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Damon Austin, Rodney Austin, Randy Mellon, Steve Vargas, Joseph Briseno, and Martin Campos. Honorary pallbearers are Simon Chavez, Jared Noble, Justin Losey, Ryan Losey, Estevan Vargas, Pete Quinones, Kevin Palmer, Omar Lee Vigil, Omar Vigil Jr., Daniel Barragan, Nico Briseno, Matthew Briseno, Nathaniel Briseno, Robin Austin, Gabriel Austin, and Martin Barragan.

Visitation will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Friday beginning at 5:00 p.m . A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Marisa was born on November 13, 1980 in Roswell, N.M. She is the daughter of Omar and Dolores Briseno Barragan of Artesia.

Marisa was a 1999 graduate of Artesia High School and a member of the girls high school softball team. She was a resident of Albuqueruqe for several years and worked as a correctional officer. Upon returning to Artesia, she attended the police academy in Hobbs, NM and became a police officer in her hometown. Her last place of employment was at Land O Lakes. Marisa moved to Spring, TX in February of 2012 to receive treatments at MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston, TX. Marisa was 32 years old and passed away on September 15, 2013 in the home of her sister and brother in law, Martina and Jerry Losey, in Jensen Beach, FL.

She is preceded in death by her grandmothers Genoveva Barragan and Jila Briseno her grandfather Manuel Barragan her uncles Florencio Lencho Briseno and Martin Camps and her cousins Paul Almanza and Ricky Briseno.

Marisa is survived by her parents, Omar and Dolores Barragan of Artesia sister Martina Losey and husband Jerry Losey nephews Justin Losey, Ryan Losey, and Jared Noble of Jensen Beach brother Mario Barragan of Spring, TX aunts and uncles Manuel Ramona Barragan, Richard Viola Vigil of Roswell, Alma Barragan of Roswell, Cameron Irma Cunningham of Roswell, Ron Norma Brady of Seminole, TX, Lupe Campos of Artesia, Frank Angie Vargas of Roswell, Solomon Briseno of Artesia, Ruben Delia Briseno of Dumas, TX, Al Linda Briseno of Fort Smith AR, Richard Carmen Briseno of Roswell, and Erlinda Briseno of Artesia.


The family would like to thank the community of Artesia for supporting our family during the last 18 months as Marisa battled cancer. Your prayers, donations, and love have lifted us up each and every day. They would also like to thank both Aycock Funeral Homes and Terpening Son for all the arrangements made to ensure that Marisa arrived home safely so she could be laid to rest.

There will be a luncheon given by the San Jose Society after graveside services at Woodbine Cemetery.
