A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010 at St. Johns United Methodist Church in Santa Fe, N.M. for former Artesia resident Marion Johnson of Santa Fe.
Memorial services are also scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Artesia.
Marion, age 67, passed away at home surrounded by her family on May 3, after a five year battle with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and pulmonary fibrosis.
She was preceded in death by her father, William P. Kilgore and mother, Carolyn Elizabeth Sebastian Kilgore.
Marion was born in Charlottesville, Va. on May 1, 1943. She married Max Johnson in El Paso, Texas on June 11, 1966. She received a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts emphasis in vocal music from Emory University, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority attended graduate school at the University of Texas and University of Montana. She was certified by Society of Real Estate Appraisal since 1989, designated as Senior Residential Appraiser, and admitted as Member Appraisal Institute MAI in 1999. She taught in public schools in Borger, Texas, Hardin, Montana, and Artesia, N.M. from 1966 to 1978.
Marion enjoyed her students when teaching in Artesia. She participated in her church activities and numerous local musical events. She was an avid supporter of the Artesia Arts Council and the Community Concert Association. The entire family enjoyed participating in the musical presentations over a several year period. She then was a real estate agentbroker from 1980 to the present and became a commercial real estate appraiser from 1990 to the present. Marion was a member of the Episcopal Church in Artesia and Santa Fe, and recently became a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church this year. She served as a Red Cross volunteer during the Cerro Grande fire and was the president of the Rio Grande Chapter of the Appraisal Institute since 2000.
She is survived by her husband, Max Johnson sons, Mark Johnson, Micah Johnson Jennifer, Mitchell Johnson Caitlin grandson, Dorman Johnson grandchild due to be born in October brothers, Bill Kilgore, Jr. Iris, Andrew Kilgore and numerous other relatives and friends.
