Marilyn Edington

A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 502 S. Ninth St., Artesia at 2 pm., 12/01/16 for Marilyn Campanella Edington, 73. Rosary will precede the mass at 1:30 pm with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. She was called to her eternal resting place on 11/22/16. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Hall, Dean Wilcox, David Bratcher, Jamey Smith, Jason Brown, Kenny Bratcher and Allen Knapp. Marilyn was born 5/30/43 and named Marlena Marinucci in Cimarron, New Mexico to Louis and Mary Marinucci Campanella. Her name was later changed when her father took his stepfather's name, Campanella and when she started school, she was nicknamed Marilyn. She graduated from Artesia High School in 1961 with highest honors. She received a full scholarship to NM Institute of Mining and Technology which she declined because she was already a wife and mother. Marilyn was a lifetime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and made her first communion at St. Anthony's. She married Tommy Caldwell in 1960 and they had 2 daughters, Selena and Marlena. They resided all of over the state of New Mexico as they followed Tommy's construction work but lived primarily in Silver City. She moved back to Artesia in 1975, married Fred Edington and they had 1 son, Luke.

Marilyn was a hard worker and held many positions including Bartender in her father's bar, "El Casino" at the young age of 19, Waitress, Bank Teller, Bookkeeper, Real Estate Broker and Investor. When she was Society Editor for the Artesia Daily Press she interviewed and wrote articles about David Bowie, a singer and songwriter and Harrison Schmitt, an astronaut and US senator. She retired in 2012 after 28 years as Social Security Dept. Hearing Clerk for the administrative federal law judges.

Marilyn enjoyed meeting new people, loved to visit and never met a stranger. She was known to help the sick and the poor and never turned anyone away. She loved going to birthday parties, class reunions, holidays and shopping for gifts for her children and grandchildren. Marilyn also enjoyed gambling, 50's and 60's music, especially Elvis, she loved to dance and was said to be the best at the jitterbug. Most of all, she loved her family.

She is survived by daughters, Selena Marie Carson and Marlena Caldwell, son in law, Jason Brown and her son, Fredrick Luke Edington and fiancé, Jamie McAlary, grandchildren Shayne Carson, Katrena Caldwell, Raquel Carson, Jenasey Brown, Moniquea Aragon and great grandson, Daryl Carson. Also survived by one brother and his wife Jim and Sandy Campanella of Rio Rancho, 3 devoted sisters and their husbands, all of Artesia, Loretta and Tony Hall, Annette and Dean Wilcox, Angela and David Bratcher, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends including her classmates from '60 and '61.

She was preceded in death by Tommy Caldwell, Fred Edington, her parents, Louis and Mary Campanella, brother, Louis "Sonny" Campanella and her beloved sister, Nancy Campanella. Marilyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her, for all who knew her, loved her.
