A memorial service is scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 23 at First United Methodist Church in Artesia, N.M. for longtime Cottonwood, N.M. resident, Marie Louise Cauhape Malone.
Mrs. Malone, 84, passed away on July 21, 2003 in Artesia after a lengthy illness.
Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services.
The daughter of a ranching family, John P. and Francis Guthrie Cauhape, Marie Louise was born on May 25, 1919 in Roswell, New Mexico, and grew up in Roswell.
She graduated from Roswell High, and attended Lyndon Wood College in St. Charles, Missouri. She was employed by the Corp of Engineers during the construction of Walker Air Force Base, and later for Mobil Oil; Marie Louise also owned a knitting shop in Roswell.
On September 19, 1959, Marie Louise married Cooper Malone in Roswell and moved to Cottonwood, New Mexico, where she lived until her death.
She was active for many years in the Helpers Club of the Artesia Good Samaritan Center. She was a member of the D.A.R.; Chapter J of P.E.O.; and a member of First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by a sister Jean Clardy; and by nephews Rusty Clardy and John Clayte Cauhape.
She is survived by her husband Cooper, her brother John T. Cauhape, Sr. and his wife Gloria of Roswell; her sister-in-law Virginia Malone of Albuquerque; her nieces Lou Clardy Whitcomb and family of Cortez, Colorado; Emily Cauhape Fluke and family of Sherman, TX; and Beth Malone of Albuquerque; and her nephew Tom Malone and family of Boston, Massachusetts. She is also survived by members of the Cauhape and Casabonne families. Marie Louise will be missed by her family and many loving friends.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Artesia Good Samaritan Helpers' Club, co Irene Holly, 1111 West Sears, Artesia, NM 88210; to Vista Care Family Hospice at 611 N. Canal, Carlsbad, NM 88220; or to a charity of choice.
