María Petra Torres (Rincón) of Artesia passed into eternal life on July 25, 2022 in Albuquerque surrounded by her family. Born in Banderas, Chihuahua, México - she was the devoted wife of Agustín Torres for 60 years and lived most of her life in Artesia and the surrounding area. María Petra was the loving mother to Teresa Paez (Eloy) of Albuquerque, Marta Torres de Domínguez (Alán) of Denver, Robert of Los Lunas, and Kimberly Martínez (Guillermo) of Artesia. She was preceded in her passing by infant son Ricardo, her parents Juan and Margarita Rincón, sister Angela, sister Adelina, and brother Juan. She was sister to María Anastasia, John, Teodora, Mary Helen, Julian, Rito, James, Timothy, Fredrick, and Diane. She had 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Additionally, she was a confidant, comadre, and a good friend to anyone who always seemed to know how to make someone laugh no matter their age. María Petra will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, the smells of her kitchen, and the sense of humor she would take with her into every day's work, be it in someone's house or cleaning the weeds in the fields. Her kind heart, quick wit, and recipes from memory endeared everyone to her and will comfort them long into the future. Her family and her beloved viejo, Agustín will miss her very much and be reminded of her beauty in the eyes of each other.
A public visitation will be held at Terpening and Son Mortuary from 2pm-4pm on Monday, August 1st followed by a rosary at Our Lady of of Grace Catholic Church at 6pm.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 am on Tuesday, August 2nd at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
