Maria Sifuentes

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Maria De Jesus Sifuentes of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Sifuentes, 86, died Saturday, January 6, 2018 at her home with her family by her side.

Fr. Frances Lazer will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dion Reid, Nicholas Dahlquist, Chris Dahlquist, Chavez Sifuentes, Aaron Carlton, and Francisco Sifuentes Quintana.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Friday, January 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Maria was born January 1, 1932 in Juan Blanco, Tepetongo Zacatecas, Mexico to Jesus Isabel Briceno and Maria del Carmen (Reyes) Briceno.

On February 13, 1947 she was married to Henry Sifuentes in Mexico. They moved to Artesia in 1959. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son Henry Sifuentes and a daughter Jane Sifuentes.

Maria was a homemaker and a very active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She was a Franciscan, a Sacred Heart Eucharistic Minister, past president of Legion of Mary, and was known as "Grandma" at Head Start where she volunteered. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and sewing and loved to cook and spend time with her family.

Maria is survived by her children Mario Sifuentes, Elisa Sifuentes, Maria Sifuentes, Petra Sifuentes, Manuel Sifuentes, Soledad Sifuentes, Chavelo Sifuentes, Carmen Sifuentes, Martin Sifuentes and Henrietta Sifuentes Bratcher; siblings Lorenza Jimenez, Soledad Rodriguez, Antonio Briceno, Santiago Briceno, and Luis Briceno; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
