Maria Rivas

Services are scheduled at 9:30 A.M. Thursday, August 29 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Maria Salinas Rivas of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Rivas, 72, died Tuesday, August 27, 2002 in Artesia. Father Virgilio Flores will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rickey DeLaRosa, Arturo Salinas, Manuel Salinas, Antonio Salinas, Lupe Salazar and Vivian Franco. A Rosary service is also planned for 6:30 P.M. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Mrs. Rivas was born February 6, 1930 in Presidio, Texas; the daughter of Jesus Salinas and Lorenza Morales Salinas. On February 9, 1963 she was married to Juan A. Rivas in Carlsbad, N.M. They came from there to Artesia in 1969. Her husband preceded her in death September 3, 1997. She was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Sam Madrid; and a grandson Michael Madrid. Survivors include her step-mother Sabina Salinas of Artesia; a daughter Julie R. DeLaRosa and husband Rickey of Artesia; brothers Arturo Salinas, Manuel Salinas Javier Salinas and Alberto Morales all of Artesia, Antonio Salinas of Carlsbad, Felipe Salinas of Jal, N.M., Cesilio Chilo Salinas of Mexico and Lorenzo Salinas of Pecos, Texas; sisters Lupe Romo of Artesia, Angelica Franco of Jal and Martha Salazar of Artesia; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
