Maria Marquez

A memorial mass is scheduled for 1:30 PM, Friday, January 3, 2020 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Maria J. Marquez of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Marquez, 95, died December 28, 2019 at Artesia General Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.

Fr. V.J. will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

A rosary will be recited at 1:00 Friday, January 3, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

Maria was born February 5, 1924 in El Mulato Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Santos Saucedo and Maria (Lujan) Saucedo.

On October 23, 1943 she was married to Andres G. Marquez in Mexico. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her son Manuel Marquez, her grandson Manuel Marquez Jr. and her sister Paula Saenz.

In 1950, Andres a US citizen, brought his family to the United States., They both worked at several farms in Loving, Hagerman, Cottonwood and finally settling in Artesia NM. Jesusita worked as a housekeeper and was an excellent cook . She also was a member of El Apostalado and volunteered in the church kitchen at Our Lady of Grace Church. She loved playing bingo and her heart was content when she knew everyone that visited her home was fed. She loved being around her family especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

She is survived by her brother, Juan Saucedo, her daughter Elma Sanchez and husband Faustino. Her daughter in law Martha M. Marquez. Her grandchildren Sonia Carbajal, Stephanie Carbajal, Michelle Garcia and husband Noe and Mark Marquez. Her great grandchildren Jacobo Andres Carbajal, Elianna Longoria, Diego Samora, Krystal Garcia, Sarah Garcia, Marcus Garcia, Manny Garcia, Mckenzie Garcia, Destiny Marquez, Ciara Tesillo and Calina Tesillo. 17 great, great grandchildren.
Rest in peace Grandma Sita. We will forever cherish your memory. We love you!
