Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Maria Luisa Hernandez, Artesia, New Mexico. PMrs. Hernandez, 82, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006 in Lubbock, Texas. PFr. Richard Lifrak SS. CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Florencio Briseno, Tony Perez, Oscar Sosa, Urbano Perez, Felix Gomez, and Luis Hernandez. Her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. PA vigil service is also planned for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace. Visitation at Terpening amp; Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. PMrs. Hernandez was born August 25, 1923 in Presidio, Texas; the daughter of Porfirio Sosa and Manuela DeAnda Sosa. POn Dec. 26, 1946 she was married to Fernando G. Hernandez in Presidio. She came from there to Artesia in 1946. He preceded her in death Oct. 11, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson Chad Hernandez; a son-in-law Ismael M. Leyva; brothers Esteban Sosa, Melquides Sosa, Florencio Sosa, Juan Sosa, Reyes Sosa and Isaias Sosa; and by sisters Paula Flores, Marcella Garcia, Cocha Baeza, and Angelita Grevarra. PShe was a housekeeper at Artesia General Hospital for 20 years and at Yates Petroleum for 30 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Apostolado, the Third Order of Saint Francis, and Cursillistas. PSurvivors include her son Fernando Hernandez and wife Stephanie of Roswell, N.M.; daughters Nancy K. Harding of Artesia, Mary Helen Acosta and husband Manuel of Artesia, Alyce Leyva of Artesia, Rose Hernandez of Artesia, and Vivian Matlack and husband Jeff of Artesia; sisters Maria de La Luz Gomez of Kermit, Texas and Juana Hernandez of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother Manuel D. Sosa of Artesia; grandchildren Sy Leyva, Edwin Leyva, Christopher Acosta, Jeffrey Acosta, Brandon Matlack, and Yvette Hernandez; and a great-granddaughter Alexis Munoz.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of one's choice.
