Maria Esquibel

Services are scheduled at 9:30 A.M. Monday, September 15 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Maria M. Esquibel, 718 Champ Clark, Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Esquibel, 72, died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at Artesia General Hospital. Father Paul Murtagh will officiate at the services with burial at San Marcos Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Monroy Anthony Castillo, Andrew Castillo, Michael Calderon, Jesse Sanchez, Kirby Moore and Prentis Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Monroy Castillo, Jr., Joey Castillo, Manuel Castillo and all other grandchildren. A rosary service is also planned for 6:30 P.M. Sunday at Our Lady of Grace. Mrs. Esquibel was born September 12, 1930 in Valentine, Texas; the daughter of Dolores Melendez and Nicolasa Chacon Melendez. She came to Artesia in 1969 from Hobbs, N.M. On November 7, 1969 she was married to Victor L. Esquibel in Carlsbad, N.M. He preceded her in death June 15, 1983. She was also preceded in death by a son Monroy Castillo, Sr.; and by three brothers and one sister. She was a housewife and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and Cursillistas. Survivors include sons David Castillo of Artesia and Ramon Castillo of Maine; a daughter Maria Bustinza of Hobbs; a sister Lucy Sanchez of Hobbs; and ten grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. The family will be receiving friends at 117 Osborn in Artesia.
