Manuela Parra

Services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 10 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Manuela H. Parra of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Parra, 85, passed away on August 5, 2018 at her home.

Father Vijay will officiate at the service with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers are Juan Parra, Luis Herrera, Lorenzo Parra, Jr., Andres Fabela, Alex Fabela, Tomas Gonzales, Marcos Tavera and Mateo Tavera. Honorary pallbearers are Lorenzo Parra, Saul Peralta, Stevan Peralta, Luis Herrera Jr. and Michael A. Herrera.

A Rosary will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Grace.

Manuela was born on August 3, 1933 in Ft. Hancock, T.X.; the daughter of Augustine and Marcela (Casillas) Herrera. In 1951 she married Carlos Parra in El Paso, Texas. They came to Artesia in 1982.

She was a waitress and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She loved Bulldog sporting events, singing and dancing, gardening and telling stories of her childhood.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carlos, her parents, 4 sisters and granddaughter Valerie F. Gonzales.

Survivors include sons Lorenzo Parra of El Paso, Juan Parra of Raton, N.M. and Luis Herrera of Denver, Colo.; a daughter Elizabeth Fabela of Artesia; brothers Albert Casillas, Angel Casillas, Freddie Casillas and Michael Casillas; sisters Connie Mendoza, Romana Lopez, Maggie Gonzales and Irma Martinez; 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
