Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 23, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Manuela Leyva of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Leyva, 93, died Monday, July 21, 2008 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Fr. Paul Murtagh SSCC. will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ryan Keim, Alejo Cortez, Steven Cortez, Kyle Leyva, Robert Leyva, Art Hernandez, and Javier Valenzuela. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Leyva was born April 5, 1915 in Terlingua, Texas; the daughter of Manuel Levario and Maria Grado Levario. She came to Artesia in 1948 from Alpine, Texas. She worked as a Cafeteria Cook for the Cottonwood Schools and was also a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Manuela was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, a great-grandchild, and a great-great-granddaughter. Survivors include her son Proto Leyva and wife Ciddy of Artesia; daughter Maria Scoggin and husband Gene of Artesia; brothers Jesus Levario of Lake Arthur, N.M., and Pablo Levario of Midland, Texas; sisters Pina Navarro of Odessa, Texas, Socorro Ramos of Midland, and Josephina Moreno of Ojinaga, Mexico; 7 grandchildren: 6 great-grandchildren.
