Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Terpening Son Chapel for Manuela Garay, of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Garay, 82, died Friday, March 16, 2007 at the Artesia General Hospital. Pastor Manuel Carrera and Pete Perez will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the grandchildren. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. A prayer service will be at Terpening Son Chapel Monday at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Garay was born June 19, 1924 in Pecos, Texas; the daughter of Pedro Madrid and Maria Cabezuela Madrid. On Aug. 19, 1950 she was married to Sipriano F. Garay in Presidio, Texas. She came to Artesia in 1950 from Texas. He preceded her in death Jan. 24, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God. Survivors include her daughters Margaret Alvarado and husband Manuel of Hobbs, N.M., Mary Aguilar and husband Phil of Artesia, and Virginia Garay of the family home; brother Ernesto Madrid of Presidio, Texas; grandchildren Annabel Alvarez and husband Jose, Anthony Alvarado, Cipriano Alvarado and wife Natalia, Jesus Alvarado and wife Toni, and Adan Alvarado all of Hobbs, Esther Garay, Andrew Aguilar, and Jamie Aguilar all of Artesia; great-grandchildren Manuel Rangel, Angelina Alvarez, Joshua Alvarado, Alex Alvarez, Miguel Alvarado, Heather Alvarado, and Matthew Alvarado all of Hobbs, and Dimitrius Romero of Artesia.
