Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 19, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Manuela Nellie Canales of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Canales, 74, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at her home.
Fr. Brian Guerrini, SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jessica Fuentes, Syra Fuentes, David Hernandez, Carlos Martinez, and Richard Martinez.
Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Canales was born December 17, 1936 in Loving, New Mexico the daughter of Guillermo Martinez and Leonarda Lopez Martinez.
On April 3, 1956 she was married to Daniel Canales in Artesia. She came to Artesia in 1956 from Loving, N.M.
Nellie worked as a baker at Woodie Pie. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and Apostolado. She enjoyed playing board games and spending time with her family including all holidays and BBQs.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents sisters Ramona Alvarez, and Allie Powell and brothers Juan Martinez, Pedro Martinez, and David Martinez.
Survivors include her husband Daniel Canales of the family home daughters Sandra Canales, Yolanda Bustamante, Lucy Aguilar, Priscilla Canales, Veronica Bustamante, and Beatrice Gabaldon all of Artesia sons Mike Fuentes of Artesia, Armando Canales of Artesia, Guadalupe Canales of McAllen, TX, Edward Canales of Artesia, and Ernesto Canales of Albuquerque, N.M. sisters Epifania Duran of Bosque Farms, and Maria Martinez of Artesia brothers Gil Martinez of Artesia, and Cepe Martinez of Artesia 27 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
