Memorial services are scheduled at 10:00 AM Monday, August 30, at Terpening Son Chapel for Manuel Gonzalez Olivas, 700 Alabama, Lake Arthur, New Mexico. Mr. Olivas, 75, died Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary. No visitation is scheduled. Mr. Olivas was born November 19, 1928 in Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico; the son of Antonio Renteria Olivas and Francisca Gonzalez Olivas. He came to the Artesia area in 1958 from Redford, Texas. He was a farm laborer and enjoyed spending time with his family and working with animals. He was preceeded in death by brothers, Simon Olivas, Esmundo Olivas, Bernabe Olivas, and Dimas Olivas and sisters, Ramona Carrasco, Santos Carrasco, Celia Olivas, and Margarita Olivas. Survivors include sons Joe Olivas of Lovington, N.M., Jimmy Olivas of Albuquerque, N.M., Javier Olivas of Roswell, N.M., Steven Olivas of Abilene, Texas, and Luis Orozco of Santa Fe, N.M.; daughters Margaret Campos of Artesia, Maria Bustamente of Andrews, Texas, Cuca Ortega of Artesia, Odulia Olivas of Artesia, and Lori Anaya of Artesia; brothers Pedro Olivas of Redford, Texas and Celestino Olivas of Cayonosa, Texas; sisters Josepha Briones of Kermit, Texas, Julia Quiroz of Midland, Texas, Socorro Carrasco of Midland, and Delia Porras of Monahans, Texas; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
